Sparrowhawk V's Blue Tits

As Winter is drawing in, tits in my garden have increased. Especially Blue Tits. I've counted, 7 but there's possibly more.

Sometimes they're foraging in the bark for insects.

But most of the time they're taking it in turns to and fro from my nut and seed feeders.........

But beware! Earlier this week there's been a female Sparrowhawk which keeps on coming for a tasty treat, a lovely tit delicacy.

Not the most friendly of birds, but stunning to look at.

Has it gone yet?

To finish of a beautiful sunset from earlier this week - before all the rain started.

  2. Beautiful birds and a gorgeous sunset. The lil birds should be careful while that hawk is hanging around. Great post!

  3. Steady on there Findlay, don't bring that Winter on too soon...lol.

Nice to see the Blue Tits are doing well in your area, despite 'old Hawkeye' being around!!

So that's what the sun looks like!!...[;o)

  4. The Blue Tits pay the price of a meal from or gardens as the Sparrowhawks also know about the meal in our gardens....nature in the raw.

Always good to look in on your blog Findlay.

  6. we have hawks around here but they don't often take songbirds at the feeders. i guess they can find enough mice and whatnot in the fields. that sunset is beautiful.

  7. A great sight in the garden Findlay, hopefully he won't take any of the blue tits - my problem is cats eyeing up the bird feeders - I keep having to shoo them away!

  15. Lovely Blue Tit photos Findlay, they are such busy and entertaining little birds to have in the garden. The Sparrowhawk is a magnificent bird but it is always distressing to see them taking other birds but all part of Nature of course, they need their meals too.

Your last post was amazing! Many congratulations on the Kingfisher photo, I have never managed one and haven't even seen a Kingfisher for a long time. A Goldcrest too! They are not easy to photograph being so tiny and always moving around so much. As for all the Nuthatches, you saw so many in one day, I only ever see the odd one. I think I'm with your Mum on taking a dead one home though ;-) As I think I said before, you are destined to become the new Chris Packham :-)
