Back To Haydyn's Pool

Today I set off at around half past twelve for a walk at Haydn's Pool (Anderton Nature Park), however this time I went with the rest of my family (not just dad).  The silver birches were looking almost black and white under the dark sky:

As we had started to set off the rain came, but didn't bother us much. Shortly after we all heard the tits feeding together. There were Blue Tits, Great Tits and Long Tailed Tits. Two Blackcaps showed up as well and that was it for journey to Haydn's Pool, apart from a terrific Jay that flew over us and a few Moor Hens that showed up when we stopped to see if we could see the Kingfisher again.

Because my mum and brother had never been to Anderton Nature Park, me and my dad didn't tell them where it was, however they soon found out and were amazed that the pool was above the river. As soon as we reached the second birdhide the place was flooded with birds.

There were Common Sandpipers, Green Sandpipers,

Little Ringed Plover:

Lapwing, a family of Grey Heron ( 2 adults and 2 youngsters):

Gadwall, Mallards and Reed Warblers (which we kept trying to get a picture of but couldn't). On the walk back we saw this stunning butterfly:

A great walk and we met some really nice birdie people at the hides.

My Migration - The Last Day

I have just come back from the beach and me and my mum think we have just seen a Goshawk, really exciting.
I had a great time at the beach and whilst I was body boarding I even got a glimpse of a few Terns.
It's the last day of the holiday but I have made the most of it.
Last night me and my dad saw to Red Kites.

My Migration - Day 3!

I didn’t do a post last night because I was too tired from my amazing day at Lands End.

The bird life there was amazing; as soon as I arrived 3 Gannets flew straight past the cliffs where I was standing (what a sight). The pictures are all a bit fuzzy because of the sea fret.

Best of all you could actually see the cliffs because the last couple of years you couldn’t see anything because of the fog.

As I ventured into the RSPB hut I met a very kind lady who told me loads of facts about birds and Lands End.

Here are some of the birds I saw:

I saw about 40 Gannets one even preformed a 60 miles per hour dive for us, however as it came out the water it had no fish in its mouth, I saw loads of Fulmars, but didn’t manage to get a picture, a few Shags:

But best of all I spotted 6 beautiful MANX SHEARWATERS fly past the cliffs. First time I have seen them.

We then travelled over to Porthcurno where 2 buzzards were doing an amazing tumbling display above the cliffs. Managed a picture, but it’s not very good because of all the mist.

Does anyone have any advice for taking pictures when it’s all misty and there’s lots of sea fret?

Oh yes, and this is my Wilde Bird Wednesday post.

My Migration!

Sorry I haven’t put on a blog for a while it’s just that I have "migrated" to Cornwall for a week. On the way the traffic was very frustrating.

And all ready I have seen quite a few birds. Here is a list of some of the birds seen so far:
A Pair of Fulmars, some Common Gulls, Cormorants, Jay, Stonechat, Sparrow Hawk, Green Woodpecker, Common Redshank and Buzzards (and of course loads of Herring Gulls):

The cottage is pretty nice with a quite a big garden however the owners don’t feed the birds, but I will leave a note in their comments book!
Just down the road there are a few Buzzards nests (always nice to see). I have been doing quite a lot of body boarding.
There are also some amazing beaches I visit with my family. The holiday is going great.

Blue Tits

I wanted to share with you the family of Blue Tits that have been feeding and nesting in the garden for about 3 years now.

I also wanted to write about these birds again is because I have got some great pictures tonight.

Tonight we also had a female Sparrowhawk was sitting on a fence about 50 yards from the kitchen window, however I didn't manage to get a picture because somebody walked past and scared it off and I couldn't get the camera working quick enough grrrrrr.

I know my head is like a encyclopedia of birds but I just wanted a few more tips on how to make my garden get more species and decent amounts of tits.

My mum and dad have just seen a Barn Owl, so I am going to look for it. Scary sky tonight. Going to try it on Sky Watch Friday.

A VERY WET DAY

I've just come back from shopping with my dad I looked out of the window and counted 46 House Sparrows in the garden (a new record for the garden).

I have been getting some great pictures of sparrows with my camera and am just starting to get the hang of getting good pictures.

How many sparrow do you get in your gardens?

And finally I had to mention this because I got the most beautiful picture of a Collared Dove.

Off to enjoy the rainy view from the garden before I watch some of the olympics.
