A Very Sad Day for WildeAboutBirds...

My brother had an eye appointment this afternoon so me and my dad took a visit to the feeding station; however when we got there the place was completely trashed, some idiots had trespassed into the wood and had left litter everywhere, damaged and emptied the bird feeders and cut nearly all the branches off the trees around the feeders trying to start fires.

My dad and I decided to find another place to put up some new feeders which will hopefully be just as good when it gets established, but I am just really sad that some people have trashed my old one, and I would never want to be reminded of it again.

I will never understand why someone would want to do this, but I know they will be the people in the future who don't care about the environment. I will still care.

The 4 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs did make me smile though.

  2. Findlay, I'm so sorry you have had this horrible, upsetting experience. It is completely beyond me why people do such things. Sadly there are always some ignorant people who spoil things for the rest of us as I coincidentally mentioned briefly in my post. I do hope the new place will be successful eventually and give you as much pleasure as the old one did and that in time the bad memories will disappear...along with the stupid people who did this!

I'm so glad the Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs cheered you up a little bit and you have beaten me, I still haven't heard a Chiffchaff yet this year!

  3. Findlay mate,
There are loads of us out here who think as you do, and most of us have to fight for nature one way or another, dont let this one act of mindless vandalism dent your obvious enthusiasm for nature.

Let it strengthen your resolve for the battles ahead, there is much to be done to protect all our wildlife. I for one am glad that we have at least one younger person on our side - you make ten of those idiots who trashed your feeders. Set 'em up and start again mate !

PS; i'll put a link to your site from my blog :-)

  5. Thankfully this worlds idiots are of a minority Findlay, but its easy to feel they are the majority and that the planet is overrun with them, especially when they behave like this in your little patch. Try to forget them and make a fresh start, tragically we'll never beat them or get rid of them, we just have hope one day they'll all develop a brain similar to the one you've been blest with.

My Kind Regards and keep on keeping on Findlay.

    Pete.

  6. That's such sad news Findlay. Please don't let those idiots ruin your enthusiasm for our wildlife, it needs, and increasingly relies, on people like you.

Just remember that one day when you're taking over the mantle of the likes of Chris Packham those morons will shamefully be reminded of their puerile actions.

Keep your chin up, you're doing a grand job...[;o)

  10. Hi Findlay. Sorry not to have commented before now, but I've been out of touch for a week or so due to other commitments.

I'm really sorry to hear that your feeding station has fallen victim to such mindless individuals. Please don't let this incident dampen your spirits or enthusiasm. It's the efforts of the special minority, such as yourself, that are need to counter the sort of mentality that causes this sort of wanton destruction. You have a part to play in this world, and you are already stepping up to the plate splendidly!
